Latin Dancing
Latin dances include salsa, rumba, mambo, cha cha and merengue. Latin dances distinguish themselves with a strongly present rhythm, often taking precedence over the melody, and a method of articulating the body called Cuban motion.
|
Swing Dancing
Dances like single jive, triple jive, west cost swing, lindy hop and shag are examples of swing dances. Swing can be lively and almost acrobatic like lindy hop or sultry and sensual like west coast swing.

Ballroom Dancing
Although ballroom dancing can describe the way a dance is technically executed, most people associate waltz, tango, paso doble and foxtrot with this category. Ballroom dances tend to be travelling dances - dances in which the partners move across the dance floor during the dance. This is in contrast to Latin and swing, dances which can be done with very little space - such as in crowded dance halls. Of course, so can waltz ... but it can get scary!
